First Quater Round Up | Amber Langerud Photography
As I write this title, I wonder if anyone else refers to things as being in the first, second, third, fourth quarters of the year. If you do let me know in the comments because I would love to know if I am crazy and alone on this or if you are with me!? With experience working in lending and a degree in economics I realize I may have some slightly different lingo than some other industries so I am just curious. And if the whole quarter thing is not common and you have a better title idea, I would also love to hear it!!
Some personal notes...
I'm going to start off personal, because why not right!? I am writing this while doing some walking on the treadmill because well I would be lying if I said I was happy with my body. I think as women we tend to be very hard on ourselves. I am about 25 pounds heavier than when I got married almost 5 years ago now and I find that very embarrassing, not to mention I thought I had about 10 pounds to lose at that point. Maybe you can relate, maybe not? But as women, are we really ever truly happy with ourselves and how we look? Also - does this view of ourselves make us really self conscious of being in front of the camera? I know for me it does, do I look good, do I look bad, is there a fat roll, a double chin, a pretty jaw line?! All the thoughts running through my head when the camera is pointed at me.
This is really what motivated me to study posing women and how to make us look our best because to be honest the camera can add 10 pounds, but when posing and camera angles are done well it can also make you drop 10 pounds and I wanted to learn those secrets to give my clients the confidence in front of the camera that I lack. Honestly though its not all about the 'weight' but also the angles, that hourglass shape, expression and connection.
Ladies - do you have any of these same struggles? How are you feeling about yourself? I would love to know! Drop a message in the comments or send me an email. I am here for you, lets lift each other up!
Its been winter so those horses have the shaggy winter coats, which in my opinion is about one part cute and one part just ugly :). Luckily with the warm weather we had up until Saturday they have been shedding, which is really exciting because of what is to come, but also just a hairy mess! Nonetheless I love them to pieces. We have done a little riding this spring and every time we do I am pretty sore the next day (bareback rider here - for my non-equine friends that just means riding without a saddle) and when you are not riding everyday eeek its kinda embarrassing because the typical everyday does not use those same muscles.
My middle child (aka Zorro) decided to get some dreadlocks in his mane, I think he is going through a rebellious stage. Ok, I'm just kidding, but his mane has gotten so long (and gorgeous), but if I don't keep on top of it, it seems to get matted up so easily. I have thought about braiding it, but don't like to do that in the summer because their mane is there to protect from the bugs. Anyone have suggestions?
For those of you who don't know my horses, they are a HUGE part of my life. I have three, all quarter horses and they have been in my life for 10+ years and I got them as babies or quite young. They are in oldest to youngest, Chaps, Zorro and Kai.
This winter has been full of awesome couples who loved braving the cold weather and snow for gorgeous winter engagement pictures!! You know who you are and I LOVE you guys!!!
Now spring sessions are about to take off (I mean they would have been this week, but this cold snow weather is going to push things back a week).
I CANNOT wait for SENIOR summer sessions guys. Like seriously cannot wait, it is going to be awesome. I love working with couples on their wedding/engagement/anniversary sessions, don't get me wrong. But there is something extra awesome about getting creative with my graduating ladies, you guys have awesome outfits, talents and fashion sense and make my job a blast! I mean what senior girl doesn't want to be a model for an afternoon.
As you may know, I have been offering some limited video services over the last appx 3 years because well I love video! This past month, thanks to one of my friends I got to film my first behind the scenes/promo film and am definitely wanting to do more of these in the future!
My adult braces are going to be coming off very soon. I mean maybe as soon as today at my appointment. They said they didn't want to get my hopes up too high so wouldn't commit, but said it was a possibility. If they do come off today I will be sharing on instagram & facebook.
Guys, I have absolutely NO idea how this is happening already, but my birthday is coming up this week and I am turning 25, guys 25, like a quarter of a century, like its been 7 years since I graduated high school. I always thought adults were...well...kinda weird for saying they still felt like a kid or still felt 21, but I am starting to understand because it is crazy how fast time starts to fly once you have settled in to your home/marriage/career, etc.
Thanks for reading and putting up with any spelling/grammar errors as I write from the treadmill. I as always love hearing from you. There has been some new educational content on the blog lately, but I always love to hear about what you want to learn or hear about from me too, whether it be a wedding planning tip, how to pick out an outfit or how to use your camera better. Or maybe even some business tips. The best way to get in touch with me as always is my email firstname.lastname@example.org.
